Fr. William Wallaik, former pastor, died on June 24, 2008
- God, the merciful Lord over life and death
called his servant Fr. Wallaik on June 24, 2008, at the age of 83,
strengthened by the Last Rites of the Church. Fr. Wallaik was born on August
13, 1924, at Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. He was ordained on May 28, 1949 by the
Most Reverend Roman Atkielski, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist,
Milwaukee. Father entered Saint Francis Minor Seminary in 1942 and completed
his studies for the priesthood at Saint Francis Major Seminary (1944-1949).
Father's priestly ministry began on July 7, 1949 as an assistant at St. Rose
Parish, Milwaukee. He was appointed a notary for the Tribunal on November 10,
1953, and left for graduate studies in Church History at Fribourg, Switzerland
in September of 1955. Upon completing his doctorate and returning in June of
1959, Father Wallaik was assigned to Holy Rosary Parish, Milwaukee; on
September 10, 1959, he was appointed the temporary administrator at St. John
the Baptist Parish, Woodhull, which included the mission of St. Mary in
Eldorado; and on April 11, 1960, he was appointed temporary administrator at
St. John de Nepomuc Parish, Milwaukee. On July 7, 1960 Father Wallaik began
his teaching career: first at Saint Francis Minor Seminary, and then moving to
Saint Francis Major Seminary on July 8, 1965. Father was
appointed pastor at St. Paul Parish, Milwaukee on September 2, 1980; he
retired from active ministry on August 31, 1989. Survived by nieces,
nephews, brother-in-law, and his personal caregiver and friend Helga Eisner,
of Baden, Austria A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at the Chapel of Saint Francis Seminary, 3257 S. Lake Dr. on Tuesday, July 8,
at 11 AM. Visitation will take place at the Chapel from 9:30 AM until time for
the funeral Liturgy. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be offered
to Saint Francis Seminary or St. Paul Parish.
