Collaborative Youth Ministry for St. Veronica and St. Paul

2007-08 Youth Ministry Schedule

Youth Ministry provides faith formation opportunities for youth from seventh grade through high school. Formal catechesis, for youth not being educated in Catholic schools, is offered through our Religious Education program, which takes place every other Sunday evening for seventh through tenth graders during the academic year. There is a Confirmation program for all eleventh graders of the parishes held one Sunday evening per month. Each of these programs encompasses retreat and service opportunities as well as social activities.

The Youth Ministry program of St. Veronica and St. Paul strives to follow the model created by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry.

As stated in that document, the goals of Youth Ministry are:

The document goes on to outlines 8 components of youth ministry: “Ministry with adolescents utilizes each of the Church's ministries:
advocacy, catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, prayer and worship
—in an integrated approach to achieve the three goals for ministry."

Confirmation Information:
Confirmation preparation is offered to all parish youth from St. Veronica and St. Paul in the 11th grade. This program includes student, parent and sponsor sessions; a retreat; service projects and other activities to enrich the young person’s understanding and appreciation of this important Sacrament of Initiation. The sessions are conducted in a large group setting with opportunities for further reflection and discussion in small groups. The Confirmation preparation program is presented as a “capstone” to the students’ previous religious education, so prior enrollment in a religious education program is important. For more information, please contact Jeffrey Montoya, Youth Minister.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR YOUTH
Religious Education is the formal, intentional catechetical component of the Youth Ministry program for youth who attend public schools. Students attend one session monthly from a calendar of available times (New This Year: One of the monthly session will be offered at St. Paul's after the 10:15AM Mass on the Third Sunday of the month). The sessions include both large and small group components. The small group time is used to facilitate discussion on faith related topics that are important to young people today. The Youth Minister and Catechists also use a variety of activities and media to help connect our faith to the everyday lives of our youth and families. The Youth Ministry program also provides opportunities for youth to engage in service, social and retreat opportunities throughout the year. For more information contact Jeffrey Montoya, Youth Minister.
